The Faith of a Child

I am often asked why the spiritual climate in Africa seems more alive than here in the West.  One reason that stands out is what I perceive as simple, childlike faith.

Don’t misunderstand.  I am not saying that our friends in Africa are simple or childlike in their intellect or understanding.  That would be a ridiculous statement.  But I am suggesting that they have an uncanny confidence that if God says it, they can take Him at His word.

While I sometimes struggle with putting my confidence in science, human reasoning, or technology, my African friends continually show me why childlike faith is surely more precious than gold:

  • It brings deep comfort despite hardships.
  • It motivates them to step into eternal purposes, letting God use them daily to share His good news in word and action.
  • It gives them hope to make changes rather than being victims of circumstances.
  • It gives them courage to pray for the impossible and believe for the implausible thus letting God glorify His own name.

I pray that we would re-discover the power  and value of simple, childlike faith.
